As the temperatures drop our appetites increase in order to prepare for Winter.
During this time, we should eat foods that are warm, oily, heavy, sweet, sour and salty as these will pacify vata and build our ojas (immunity and hardiness).
Some foods that are beneficial to focus on are honey, whole grains, fresh whole milk or yogurt, soups, cooked apple, citrus, sesame oil, ghee, squash, dates, sweet potato, beets, other root vegetables, mung beans, nuts and seeds. Most spices are good especially those that are warming like cinnamon, cardamom, turmeric, ginger and pepper.
